Thirty years have already passed since the death of one of the greatest poets of twentieth-century photography, Luigi Ghirri, and on this occasion an incredible photographic exhibition tells us about Italy as seen through his eyes.
“In scala diversa. Luigi Ghirri, Italia in Miniatura e nuove prospettive” is the title of the event inaugurated on 28 April at Palazzo dei Musei in Reggio Emilia.
It retraces the shots in the series that the author dedicated to Ivo Ramboli’s project Italia in miniatura, the well-known theme park located near Rimini, a precise, to-scale reproduction of Italy’s landscape, monumental and architectural heritage, from the late 1970s to the first half of the 1980s.
Reality versus representation, illusion and trompe-l’oeil, the reproduction of nature and the phenomenon of tourism: these are some of the themes that both artists had observed and dealt with in different ways and that today the exhibition curated by Joan Fontcuberta, together with Matteo Guidi and Ilaria Campioli, allows us to retrace and explore.
The exhibition will be open until 8 January 2023.
