On 20 June, the winners of the 27th edition of the ADI Compasso d’Oro were announced at the ADI. The most prestigious and oldest award in the field of industrial design was created in Italy, first proposed back in 1954 by Gio Ponti and initially sponsored by La Rinascente. Since 1964, the award has passed entirely to ADI, Associazione per il Disegno Industriale.

“The radical transformations that the design is called upon to interpret, from the environmental crisis to economic and social inequalities, are pushing the design culture to engage in a multiplicity of directions, from the conscious use of the resources available to the planet to the creation of objects capable of including and enhancing the various components of civil society”. These were the opening words of the speech by the jury chaired by Annachiara Sacchi at the ceremony to announce the 20 projects awarded the Compasso d’Oro 2022. Thus, the 27th edition of the prestigious prize rewards sustainability, development, and social responsibility.

The 20 awards are flanked by 9 Compassi d’Oro for the career of Italian and 3 international personalities, and for the second time 3 long-selling products were awarded, the Ghost armchair by Cini Boeri and Tomu Katayanagi for Fiam Italia (1987), the Minikitchen by Joe Colombo for Boffi (1968) and the Up series by Gaetano Pesce for B&B Italia. There were 25 honorable mentions, and to complete the panorama 3 prizes and 9 certificates for the Targa Giovani.

Compasso d’Oro for lifetime achievements for Italy are Giovanni Anceschi, Francesco Binfaré, Giulio Cappellini, Antonio Citterio, Brunello Cucinelli, Michele De Lucchi, Rossana Orlandi, Rosy Vago and Giancarlo Zanatta. The international personalities honored are Lidewij Edelkoort, Hans Muth and Peter Opsvik.
