“Concéntrico 08” – Logroño International Festival of Architecture and Design was held in Logroño, Spain from 1st to 6th September, an event that investigates issues related to the urban environment with innovation and opens an interesting reflection on public space. In its eighth edition, the festival explores possible forms of architecture capable of defining new forms of community in public space.
Through talks, seminars and installations, the event offers an urban experience by offering visitors the chance to discover new and unexplored ways of enjoying different spaces in the city.
Since 2015, more than 90 urban installations have been realized to which are added the interesting interventions proposed in the last edition by Konstantin Grcic, Matali Crasset, Izaskun Chinchilla, Associates Architecture, Piovenefabi, Tudor Vlasceanu, SKULL Studio, Germane Barnes, Rintala Eggertsson Architects, BudCud, Tableau, Yemail Architecture, Pawel Grobelny, Inventaires#3, Dallas + Pool is cool, AAA, Ander López + Sarai Olabarrieta, Collective X, and the invited schools the Central Saint Martins with Gonzalo Herrero + Pati Santos and the Escuela Superior de Diseño de La Rioja with Clara Alonso, Marta Basterra and Mikel Aguerrea.
Domesticity, ecology, local identity, play, and social engagement were the main themes explored by the many architects involved. The projects confronted both the domestic and territorial scales and transformed places by grafting new urban relationships such as Mount Cantarbia, the Ebro River and the more urban contexts, La Rosaleda del Paseo del Espolón or Calle Obispo Bustamante or even the more recent developed urban areas: the Felipe IV Park and Calle Marqués.
The different forms of landscape became scenes in transformation, set up with architecture capable of triggering theoretical reflections on urban space but also including the community by opening to new forms of collectivity.
