Abu Dhabi, the new Apple Al Maryah Island

The new Apple Al Maryah Island by Foster + Partners is in the prime location of the island’s large financial district square, below the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange building and next to The Galleria Al Maryah Island shopping mall. It embodies the centerpiece of Abu Dhabi’s waterfront.

Along the promenade, the new Apple center rises on a black granite podium – marked by a “waterfall” – that connects to the pedestrian level with two diagonal ramps. The store appears as a stage in an experiential journey for visitors who enter the mall accompanied by the sound of water and the reflective surfaces that distinguish it.

The external envelope is bounded by completely transparent walls that allow a constant dialogue between the interior space and the external environment, while the roof is defined by a 22-meter seamless mirror foil that emphasizes the iconicity of the volume.

The store is described by a single floor almost 6 meters high that welcomes the forum to the east, the Apple Avenues to the north and south: the spaces are delimited by a sequence of furniture that also serve as vertical walls. The ceiling that defines the spaces is made of a laminated fabric that gives spaciousness and optimizes acoustic performance.
