Indoor comfort, acoustic insulation: how to achieve both with GASBETON

Good acoustic insulation significantly contributes to increasing the level of a building's indoor comfort.

Let’s think about adjacent hotel rooms or contiguous apartments: poor acoustic insulation could lead to discomfort, while proper insulation means higher well-being and freedom. This is the reason behind the different regulations that impose minimum standards for insulation from noise.

The best way to obtain high values of Rw (an indicator of the acoustic insulation power of walls) is to exploit the MASS+SPRING+MASS mechanism. This means building double walls divided by sound insulating and sound-blocking materials. The combination of materials whit diverse mechanical characteristics makes it hard for sounds to pass from one room to another, reflecting and absorbing sound waves, and therefore decreasing noises.

Our expertise in construction, which includes various laboratory tests carried out by independent institutes, taught us how to maximize the performance of sound-insulating walls. Our method includes a combination of GASBETON walls, made of blocks with different densities, insulation materials, and a little air cavity in between.

Given the growing demand for sound insulating materials, we have enriched the GASBETON product range with GASBETON ACUSTIC, a masonry block that is studied to offer the highest grade of sound insulation ever reached by aerated concrete.

GASBETON ACUSTIC is particularly appreciated by designers and builders because, together with its sound-proofing quality, it maintains all the benefits of the GASBETON construction system: construction speed and ease, fire resistance, thermal insulation, safety, and sustainability.

ACUSTIC blocks aren’t just used for “double-layer” walls, they are also very useful to build narrow single-layer walls, within a single property, in order to reduce sound transmission among rooms and raise comfort. That is because GASBETON ACUSTIC enables a 2-3 dB increase of the Rw value if compared to “standard” aerated concrete blocks, which is a significant increase considering the limited thickness of internal walls (8-12 cm).
