Timeless Grandeur Reimagined in Dubai

From The Middle East

Roman Classicism Meets Contemporary Gulf Living in Al Mamzar

Located in the Al Mamzar district of Dubai, this private residential palace reinterprets the language of Roman classical architecture for a contemporary Gulf context. Completed in 2022, the project was delivered end-to-end by Algedra, encompassing architectural engineering, interior design, construction, and fit-out.

The exterior composition is defined by cream-toned natural stone, intricately carved ornamental reliefs, and fluted Corinthian columns that establish a sense of monumentality. A sequence of layered arches frames the main entrance portico, culminating in a double-height pointed arch adorned with refined scrollwork. Bronze-finished pendant lanterns animate the entrance arcade, setting a ceremonial tone that anticipates the interior experience. Large arched windows, articulated with slender mullions, punctuate the façades, allowing abundant natural light while preserving the classical rhythm of the elevations.

At the heart of the interior, a double-height rotunda forms the main foyer, crowned by a domed skylight with a petal-pattern coffered ceiling. A cascading crystal chandelier extends through the full vertical void, anchoring the spatial composition. Twin sweeping marble staircases rise symmetrically to the first-floor gallery, their sculptural curves accentuated by underlit risers and detailed with wrought-iron and dark timber balustrades.

The ground floor is distinguished by an elaborate waterjet-cut marble inlay featuring botanical scrollwork in dark stone, green, and amber tones. This central element bridges European mosaic traditions with regional craftsmanship, reinforcing the project’s cross-cultural narrative.

The residence accommodates eight bedrooms, two living rooms, a dedicated women’s majlis, a men’s majlis, and a full range of service and support spaces. Throughout, the interiors maintain a consistent classical vocabulary, with layered ceiling mouldings, gilded wall reliefs, and a refined palette of white marble, warm metallic finishes, and dark wood accents.

The surrounding landscape complements the architectural scale with manicured lawns, geometric paver-and-grass driveways, and young palm plantings designed to mature alongside the residence. Together, architecture and landscape articulate a cohesive vision of timeless luxury rooted in classical heritage and adapted to modern living.
